Trick or Treat Letter
Happy Halloween and thank you!
This is the Trick of Treat Letter for Labocat on AO3 - thank you so much for signing up and I hope we matched on something you're excited about!
General things! This is just broad-view stuff; I'll note where applicable in specific sections if canons/ships can ignore something.
In General: I’m really happy with anything! And by anything, I really do mean just about anything; it’s hard to find something that I absolutely don’t like hard stop. I'm good with all ratings, and as this is a more lax exchange, please feel free to mix up styles or try something new! Changing PoV of the same situation? Snapshot scenes? Epistolary? Are all amazing, so please feel free to experiment if that's where the mood takes you!
I love the idea of tricks and treats: I really love hurt/comfort and have kind of selected fandoms that weave darker events or topics in with lighter moments and sweet character interactions but also have great hurt/comfort possibilities (or just hurt in some cases, which is absolutely fine!). Please feel free to go wherever your heart takes you on these; they're all fandoms I'd be absolutely great with either end of the spectrum.
Some tropes I adore that are relevant (non-comprehensive):
- hurt/comfort and whump
- alternate PoVs of scenes
- pre-canon backstory
- curtainfic/established relationship
- casefic
- fake relationship/arranged marriage/accidentally married/accidental confessions
- found family
- enemies/rivals to lovers (also friends to lovers)
- secret relationships/friendships
- reincarnation/fated/soulbonds
- trapped somewhere together
- loyalty
- magically bonded together (either physically or telepathically)
- redemption and corruption (obv doesn't have to be in the same story, but I am good with either route!)
- road trips
- the 90s anime onsen episode
General treat likes/ideas: anything autumn-flavored! walks in the woods, bonfires, apple picking, hot drinks on cold nights, costumes or costume parties, trick or treating or just a Halloween party, finding good ways to keep warm as the weather gets colder (whether this be sweaters, blankets, cuddling, or sex), treating a lover to a special dinner or night out, magic, supernatural AUs, running into supernatural beings that don't mean anyone harm (but maybe some tricks or pranks), running or visiting haunted haunted, telling scary stories,
General trick likes/ideas: supernatural beings that do mean harm, dark woods with no way out, blood magic, vore, psychological horror, being brainwashed or gaslit into an disadvantageous situation, mad scientists - especially with unwilling test subjects, haunted items, body horror, non-con body modification, apocalyptic situations (either zombie, nuclear, or otherwise), eldritch horrors, actually haunted houses, being possessed/dealing with someone possessed
My DNWs are very few and are unlikely to come up in these canons, but just in case: pregnancy/kids, miscommunication/misunderstanding as the central source of tension, non-canonical pronouns, and suicidal thoughts/actions from characters further than canon would go.
Really Optional Details That Are Entirely Optional (okay let’s just call them kinks): If you wanted to go a M/E route, and are comfortable writing any of the following, I really enjoy size difference, blindfolds, orgasm denial, sex pollen, messy/sloppy sex, intercrual, oral, semi-public sex (like in a closet or alley), sensory deprivation, breathplay, toys (especially hidden vibes), marking/possessiveness, body worship, slow, drawn-out sex that can really tie in with the aforementioned body worship, or awkward first times. I also like a lot of things that generally have to be requested and that most people aren’t comfortable with so they are Extra Optional: dubcon, vore/gore, tentacles and xenophilia, oviposition, cum inflation, a/b/o, bloodplay, threesomes/moresomes, double penetration, and collars.
In general, I am not an artist, so I can't promise my art prompts are all that great, so please feel free to ask for more information! I mostly requested fic on the basis of my inability to give good art prompts, but if anything grabs your attention from a fic prompt, please feel free to draw it! Or ask for more explanation!
Also, past letters are fair game to check if I've requested a fandom before if you want more guidance, since I tend to skip around on what details I give where.
Fate/Grand Order
Characters: Carmilla, CasCu, Gudako, Mash, Nitocris
Honestly, I would love just about anything with any character, but a Chaldea Halloween celebration is always a good time if the past two years' events are anything to go by! I love this canon so, so much; it really encompasses so many different situations and manages to get them all to fit together. All these different personalities and heroic and divine spirits living together under one roof trying to prevent the end of the world and now worse, but also so many more light-hearted situations, like races through the desert that end in having to dig your way out of prison with a spoon. I love how character-driven it is, so anything with any of the characters in terms of introspection about their past or future or how their goals in the past have changed now that they're in Chaldea or around all these different personalities. Missing scenes from hanging around Chaldea or dealing with anything that happened in chapters, or even how seriously grinding battles or chapter rivalries play out would be so neat to see!
Tricks could have to do with Carmilla and her iron maiden, anything having to do with the battles in-game, especially against the ghosts, or any of the dark or less savory parts of the servants' pasts and how it haunts them even now.
Treats could be Nitocris causing a flood of Medjed in Chaldea, trick-or-treating around the base, Gudako and Mash putting Mash's Halloween costumes to good use, picking out costumes for anyone else, what exactly does "fall" mean when you're in a base up in the mountains?
Shades of Magic
Characters: Kell, Holland, Osaron
Honestly these are going to be more trick than treat, since the warm and silly moments of this canon are few and far between. The entire canon revolves around bloodmagic and its uses and misuses and I love seeing that played with in any form, either for healing or torture or sex.
I love the worldbuilding potential of these books - there’s so much to be explored in both the magic and the politics the occur from both inter and intra-world dynamics! I love how each character (and each London) has been shaped by their distance from the magic center and what London they occupy and the sort of shifts we get to see when they’re faced with new elements. Each of the Londons has a different relationship with magic due to their distance from the center, but what could have happened if any of the characters were from a different London, or the Londons were in a different order radiating outward? What if Kell and Holland were Antari of other Londons? Have they ever been trapped in a different London during their early days learning their Antari powers? The Antari are a dying breed and Kell was brought quickly to the court - did the royals have people out searching for Antari to bind them to the crown even before they started dying out? Were they in the monasteries instead? Under a guise of "education"? What does magic look like in some of the cities other than London? From what we see in Red London, the Antari aren't well understood by any of the other countries, so do they have different magical systems? There's so much to explore!
I do ship Kell and Holland, so I would love anything with the two of them, especially a fix-it where they get to keep their Antari powers or continue living as the opposite sides of Antari coins in different Londons. Any sort of missing scene between them at any point during the books would be welcome, or any time they ran into each other beforehand! I love Holland teaching Kell spells he hadn't known before, and the difference in how they both interact with and treat Osaron.
As another trick, I'd love to see anything dealing with more of Osaron's invasion of the Londons, or how he views the Antari, or even a glimpse of the Londons under Osaron's total rule.
Dream Daddy
Characters: Robert, Damien, Mary, Joseph
I am in love with how cute this game is and how much character they managed to get into such a short game! It's such a warm game, and you can really feel the heart that everyone put into making it in all of the characters. I love all the characters in the game, but with the Dadsona as such a player-motivated character, I wanted to request in-game characters, and these felt the most obvious. I love the relationship between Mary and Damien, as well as between Mary and Robert. I do think that Mary and Joseph's marriage is better off separated, for everyone, so if you have them together, I'd rather no one think they're better together. However, Joseph and Robert and Mary as a threesome, past or present, is so intriguing, especially since we know they all have a history. Were there vacations on the boat all together? Mary obviously gets Robert in the divorce, but how did the fall-out between Robert and Joseph happen? How did Mary and Damien become friends?
Tricks: Cult-end is the obvious one, and that can play out as seriously or as jokingly as you see fit, happy end or no. Maybe Robert's cryptid hunt turns up a real ghost or cryptid! Does one of Damien's picnics in the graveyard put him in the middle of a zombie uprising?
Treats: How into Halloween is Damien? Or any of them? Is there a cul-de-sac Halloween face-off on who has the best garage haunted house or best candy? Are the twins finally in the spotlight for their killer horror movie impressions?
Yuri on Ice
Character: Yuuri Katsuki
I am so head-over-heels for this series; it manages to hit everything I love about most sports series and set it in a world of professionals who are extremely competent and all interact well but have their own lives and goals and career. I do ship Yuuri/Victor, but honestly I am a notorious multi-shipper, so anyone with anyone is good by me!
Really I am good with any and every character showing up, but I would like Yuuri to be the focus! I love everyone, so this is more my limitations in being able to come up with prompts for everyone that asking against anyone.
Treats: Halloween Ice Show! At any rink, or even set in the future with student skaters. Yuuri in Saint Petersburg or anywhere in the future, outsider POV, or maybe everyone's trapped in a horror movie scenario (this could also go to trick if the scenario is real and not a prank or on the goofy side)
Tricks: Haunted ice rink! Or dealing with an injury either from skating or an unrelated accident,
I am okay with non-skating AUs or future AUS, especially if you want to do a magic or youkai AU to fit with the season!
In a Week
How did these corpses get there? Can they actually still communicate with each other and plan? Are they just waiting to be uncovered so that they can move on or is it the next part of their plan? Are they on the land of the person who killed them, or is that person being framed? Do they live on in the buzzards that eat them? Is it a curse? I feel like there's so many neat things to be explored in, and I love the languid, easy feel of the song itself and how not at all creepy it sounds until you realize something's wrong, much like the creatures on the land itself don't realize anything's wrong until it's too late.
For art, something that shows/emphasizes their connection, even in death, or the type of landscape where you don't realize something's off until it's too late. I am absolutely fine with whatever state of decay the corpses are in.
The Adventure Zone
Characters: Brad Bradson, Magic Brian, Hurley, Sloane, Angus McDonald
Again, I'm not really asking against any of the rest of the cast, but I see fewer of these characters around and would love to see more!
Angus: Is there Halloween on the moon? Trick or treating? Maybe there's a Halloween mystery for him to solve. How did he start on the road to becoming the best boy detective?
Brad: I just want SO MUCH MORE with Brad - how awful is it being HR for the BoB? How is it different at the BoB after the finale? How many people has he seen come and go?
Hurley and Sloane: How did they get started racing? Either originally or start racing together? When did Hurley's decision to join the police force come about in their relationship, racing or romantic?
Magic Brian: How did he get his start? I mean, how do you end up in a cave with the reputation and name of The Black Spider? Was it a conscious choice or did spiders just kind of flock to him? Why does Brian know about the grand relics???
For art, any of the above on the job or a quiet moment, maybe enjoying a quiet moment or a hobby you wouldn't expect them to have - does Brian embroider his own tabard, for example?
The Magnus Archives
Any
I am so up for anything and everything with this canon and these characters, since this is probably one of my favorite fandoms for this exchange right now. I'd love an original statement, or just a day around the Institute. Does Martin finally get to have everyone sit down for tea and a day where nothing goes wrong and everything is (mostly) normal? How did everyone originally find out about the institute and start working there? What happens on anyone's deeper investigation into statements? The institute has its own protections, but has anything gone wrong outside its walls to the cast?
Also absolutely fine with smut or dub/noncon here.
Persona 5
Characters: Akechi, Haru
Akechi: How did he feel after his first murder - what happened when he realized that killing people in the Metaverse basically killed them in real life? I do ship Akechi/Protag, and love the fact that they're two sides of the same trickster coin, but we didn't get nearly enough of Akechi's views on this for my satisfaction, especially since he never learned about the whole Game and how diametrically placed he and Akira were. How many times did he want to drop his Detective Prince persona or just see what the Phantom Thieves would do? Is he still alive?
Haru: Literally anything and everything would be wonderful. I ship Haru/Akira, as well as Haru/Makoto, but solo Haru or just hanging out with the Phantom Thieves would be fantastic. Tending to her garden, trying out a new recipe, planning to open her cafe, a glimpse of the future where she's in charge of Okumura Foods and what it looks like under her direction.
Original Work
Characters: Time-Travelling Artificial Intelligence, Ghost Cat, Ghost Jellyfish, Long Abandoned Sentient Ship, Cherry Tree with Bodies Buried Underneath, Xenoarchaeologist Investigating a Dead Civilization, Matchmaker who Can See Red Strings of Fate, Cum-Powered Sentient Machine, Starving Vampire
I love requesting Original because there are always such creative archetypes nominated, and as usual, I love the aforementioned requests for their base archetype or concept, so literally anything you do with them will make me happy. I love tropes played straight, subverted, crack treated seriously, or the lighthearted side of something usually serious. Please feel free to mix and match, or completely disregard the prompts below!
In general, I tend to like f/f or m/m, and for an exchange like this, fucked-up or complicated relationships (either for mundane or supernatural reasons) would be amazing, but as I said, I enjoy these requests for the tropes/archetypes themselves, so whatever you think fits is good in my book!
Time-Travelling AI: Who created the AI in the first place? Did it develop itself? Does it have a favorite time period? Has it ever tried or wanted to change history? Has it ever done it and what were the ramifications? Did it think it was doing the right thing (and turn out to be right?)? Is its base moral code in favor of humanity or a different species entirely - mosquitoes, for example?
Ghost Cat: Is the cat attached to a particular person or place? Does it have ghost friends? Does it watch over people or is it a tricksy cat? Is seeing it a lucky or cursed omen? Is it visible only at certain times of day/night/year/circumstance? Can only certain people see it?
Ghost Jellyfish: I LOVE JELLYFISH. Literally nothing you do here will make me disappointed - if it is about a jellyfish, I will be delighted. I'm pretty sure even my DNWs can be disregarded for this request. That said, similar to ghost cat, but for jellyfish. Are there blooms of jellyfish that wash up on the shore sometimes and disappear without a trace by the morning? Does a diver or someone swimming encounter one or an entire bloom? Are they lucky or cursed? Are there stories of how the ghost jellyfish came to be? I admit I have moon jellies mostly in mind for this due to their coloring and stomach position, but I also particularly love blubber, spotted, flower-hat, and upside-down jellies. Maybe the bloom of ghost jellyfish is particularly noteworthy because it includes a lot of different types of jellyfish all at once!
Long Abandoned Sentient Ship: What memories does the ship hold? Is it sad about being abandoned? Is it a space ship or a sea ship? Is it stranded/sunk, or just moving around freely, unbound by convention? Do others try to board it, and if so, what mechanisms does it use to chase them out? Does it hold ghosts of its own?
Cherry Tree with Bodies Buried Underneath: How did this tree get picked out of all the others? How much does it stand out? Does everyone know about it or is there just one person who kills for it and everyone else just believes it to be a particularly beautiful tree? Does it only drink blood/corpses and no other normal nutrients? Is the tree sentient? Does it call people to kill for it that normally wouldn't kill? How long has this tree been there? I'd love to see a juxtaposition between something like a normal picnic on the ground and the corpses below if you'd like an art prompt! As with the In a Week request, any state of decay of the bodies beneath is fine, both for art and writing description.
Xenoarchaeologist Investigating a Dead Civilization: How long dead has this civilization been? Are they on their own or part of an expedition? Was there a lot of bureaucracy to get here or are they a grave digger? Are they trying to prove something? How many stories about this civilization has the xenoarchaeologist heard and how many are true? Do they discover anything down there that is...unexpected? It seems like a decent time to bring back that I love xenophilia!
Matchmaker Who Can See Red Strings of Fate: Do they go out of their way to get a couple together or keep them apart if they do or don't see the red strings? How far have they taken things to make sure a couple gets together? Are they together with their own string, or did something happen? Why are they a matchmaker? Do they actively fight against pairing up people strung together?
Cum-Powered Sentient Machine: I am going to be exceedingly upfront and say that I prefer it spelled "come" but it's not a deal-breaker or anything. What kind of machine is it? Does it acquire its own victims, or does it have volunteers, or even a dedicated partner? Does it need more come the more energetic it needs to be, or does it have certain powers or abilities unlocked by more or different come? If you go the route that it acquires its own victims, I am again fine with dub/noncon - does it have aphrodisiacs it can use to increase output or compliance of its choices? For a more volunteer/partner-based route, maybe it's in the middle of something important or a big battle or something and has to take a quick, inconvenient break. Does it fake being powered low because it's learned to enjoy harvesting come?
Starving Vampire: Why is the vampire starving? Choice or deprivation or torture? Does starvation make them more feral, more clumsy, more desperate, or incapacitated? Do they find someone to feed from or does someone find them and offer? Does it end well or badly for that person? Does the vampire regret it afterward? Do they actually find someone to feed from, or is the starvation a form of rebellion or torture? Do they die a martyr - is their death calculated?
