This is the Trick of Treat Letter for Labocat on AO3 - thank you so much for signing up and I hope we matched on something you're excited about!
General things! This is just broad-view stuff; I'll note where applicable in specific sections if canons/ships can ignore something.
In General: I’m really happy with anything! And by anything, I really do mean just about anything; it’s hard to find something that I absolutely don’t like hard stop. I'm good with all ratings, and as this is a more lax exchange, please feel free to mix up styles or try something new! Changing PoV of the same situation? Snapshot scenes? Epistolary? Are all amazing, so please feel free to experiment if that's where the mood takes you!
I love the idea of tricks and treats: I really love hurt/comfort and have kind of selected fandoms that weave darker events or topics in with lighter moments and sweet character interactions but also have great hurt/comfort possibilities (or just hurt in some cases, which is absolutely fine!). Please feel free to go wherever your heart takes you on these; they're all fandoms I'd be absolutely great with either end of the spectrum.
Some tropes I adore that are relevant (non-comprehensive):
A couple notes on things like pairing order - I've requested quite a few cnovels in which there are canon "orders", but I do not care in the slightest if you're writing shipfic and encourage switching if you're feeling it - first time topping or first time reversing is always of interest! For the demons especially, I would love anything of a glimpse of what it's like to have had to work with Luo Binghe during the time he was building up his territory and pining at the same time and trying to keep up with that whiplash. Or post-canon and having to somehow help hold everything together.

I am so, so intrigued by Xiao Lu and what a foil he is for Cui Buqu and Feng Xiao, but especially Cui Buqu with their shared physical impairments framing genius. I am also particularly intrigued by what might've happened if Cui Buqu /had/ agreed to go with him during their confrontation, even under a pretense. They're both constantly playing chess against the world and even just introspection would be fascinating.

I love the feel of this novel so much, the atmospheric intersection of gentle spooks and comedy and the raw emotional desire to connect with someone, even though you might not be of the same world. Lu Qingjiu's practical nature is a great foil for Bai Yuehu's nature and laziness, especially in the face of everything that comes to visit and that they come across. I'd also love to see anything from pre-canon, like interactions with folklore creatures back in the city.
Lu Qingjiu's grandmother is also fascinating, since she is implied to have the same powers and setup, but has both sides of the danger and beauty of interacting with the fantasy side of their village. I'd love to see anything from her timeline, or ever her getting to reconcile with Lu Qingjiu's grandfather. My permanent character death DNW does not apply here.
I love the Well Ghost and hope she is doing well, but she certainly had a time before Lu Qingjiu moved in. Anything about her story would be so welcome - again, my permanent character death DNW does not apply here - from how she came to the well to the years before Lu Qingjiu, to outsider POV on all that happens on the farm!

Yells and just doesn't stop.
Zhanlu has every right and is the reason everyone else is still alive because none of them are capable of even doing laundry. I'd love his outside POV, or even just his POV through the eras, being a common link and having seen so many of all of these larger-than-life heroes up close and personal (more of Lu Xin's bad nursery rhymes are always welcome).
Turan is another I'd be super fascinated on her POV, from watching over both Lin Jingheng and Lu Bixing at different times in their lives, to running her own squadron to being a general for the Eighth Galaxy and she and Zhanlu are the best wingmen.
Lin Jingheng DESIGNER-BRAND ICE CUBE. I love his slow opening up throughout the series, especially with the introduction of more and more people who are able to crack open his cold exterior with Lu Bixing's help. He's so dedicated and needs to learn that he doesn't have to do everything himself, but that's what Lu Bixing is there for.
Lu Bixing SUNSHINE AND LIGHT, I adore this dumb space scientist who has so many brain cells and chooses to only use two at a time but whose charisma stat is off the charts so gets away with everything. He is also so dedicated and so passionate and has gone through so much and I just want him to have a mushroom farm in his backyard.
I would love any character or combination of characters from this list!
Kaleidoscope of Death:
Lin Qiushi, Ruan Nanzhu
Me, two years ago: I'm not that big on horror, I scare too easily
Me, this year, reading Kaleidoscope of Death before bed: Ah, what a good bedtime story.
Seriously though, this is just such a good balance of really fascinating short horror worlds with a puzzle/solving the story lens as well as just two perfect lead characters. Lin Qiushi is just so perfectly accepting of everything that happens and rolls with it - sometimes a little too well, though it feeds into his special brand of shamelessness, and it's beautiful
Ruan Nanzhu is just his perfect foil, utterly shameless in the other direction and intriguingly dichotomic inside and outside the door. I love the underlying sincerity in all of his jokes and actions, especially toward Lin Qiushi, and he is just such a perfect blend of flippantly competent. He is the "I'll do it better than you /and/ in 6-inch heels" meme personified.
I'd love to see anything, from a new door world to any downtime outside of the doors, MORE BEDSHARING, ALWAYS BEDSHARING, Lin Qiushi getting jealous over Chestnut's affections, anything!

Ghost Jellyfish
I LOVE JELLYFISH. Literally nothing you do here will make me disappointed - if it is about a jellyfish, I will be delighted. I'm pretty sure even my DNWs can be disregarded for this request. That said, similar to ghost cat, but for jellyfish. Are there blooms of jellyfish that wash up on the shore sometimes and disappear without a trace by the morning? Does a diver or someone swimming encounter one or an entire bloom? Are they lucky or cursed? Are there stories of how the ghost jellyfish came to be? I admit I have moon jellies mostly in mind for this due to their coloring and stomach position, but I also particularly love blubber, spotted, flower-hat, and upside-down jellies. Maybe the bloom of ghost jellyfish is particularly noteworthy because it includes a lot of different types of jellyfish all at once!

I just love the concept of doomed, switched fates and He Xuan trying to "fix" it but really digging himself in deeper with every action. I would love anything from any point in time, from his ascension to a Ghost King, to his time in the Heavens, to after Book 3 shakes out, or even post-canon. Introspection, regret, or trying to rebuild, or even just a small moment with the bone fish (HOW DID HE COME TO PICK BONE FISH)

- Luo Binghe: Oh Binghe.
- Mobei-jun: I am so curious what being Binghe's right-hand demon entails and how much of a trial it is to have to listen to your boss angst about how his love is unrequited and then trying to parse any sort of advice. Demon power struggles are also fascinating to me, or anything Moshang if you want to go a shippy route!
- Original Luo Binghe: Oh Bing-ge
- Original Shen Qingqiu: I love original goods Shen Qingqiu and just how petty and held together by spite and bristling at the thought of losing anything to anyone he is. Please feel free to do anything canon divergence here, or within the og novel timeline. I am a-ok with gore and anything BingJiu flavored, as well as the co-dependent mess he and YQY are. LiuShen is also welcome here!
- Sha Hualing: I'll be honest, most of what I want here is anything in the realm of realizing that she's never going to draw Binghe's eye and that being one of the demon generals is a lot more hard work than expected, but hey, that Liu Mingyan is rather fun to fight
- Shang Qinghua: Oh my god this disaster.
- Shen Qingqiu: Oh my god this other disaster
- System: System interactions. Just all the system interactions - how many missions has this system been on before? Just what was the system doing while SQQ was growing a mushroom body? Does the system have any thoughts on this whole thing?
- Yue Qingyuan: He tried so hard and got so far and in the end it didn't even matter
- Zhuzhi-lang: This poor snake boy is doing his best and it's hardly his fault he's so sheltered that everyone he interacts with gives him unrealistic expectations for romantic interactions. Literally anything you want to do here is great.

Ruan Nanzhu is just his perfect foil, utterly shameless in the other direction and intriguingly dichotomic inside and outside the door. I love the underlying sincerity in all of his jokes and actions, especially toward Lin Qiushi, and he is just such a perfect blend of flippantly competent. He is the "I'll do it better than you /and/ in 6-inch heels" meme personified.
I'd love to see anything, from a new door world to any downtime outside of the doors, MORE BEDSHARING, ALWAYS BEDSHARING, Lin Qiushi getting jealous over Chestnut's affections, anything!

Ghost Jellyfish
I LOVE JELLYFISH. Literally nothing you do here will make me disappointed - if it is about a jellyfish, I will be delighted. I'm pretty sure even my DNWs can be disregarded for this request. That said, similar to ghost cat, but for jellyfish. Are there blooms of jellyfish that wash up on the shore sometimes and disappear without a trace by the morning? Does a diver or someone swimming encounter one or an entire bloom? Are they lucky or cursed? Are there stories of how the ghost jellyfish came to be? I admit I have moon jellies mostly in mind for this due to their coloring and stomach position, but I also particularly love blubber, spotted, flower-hat, and upside-down jellies. Maybe the bloom of ghost jellyfish is particularly noteworthy because it includes a lot of different types of jellyfish all at once!
He Xuan
I just love the concept of doomed, switched fates and He Xuan trying to "fix" it but really digging himself in deeper with every action. I would love anything from any point in time, from his ascension to a Ghost King, to his time in the Heavens, to after Book 3 shakes out, or even post-canon. Introspection, regret, or trying to rebuild, or even just a small moment with the bone fish (HOW DID HE COME TO PICK BONE FISH)
