Yuletide 2017

Dear Yuletide Writer,
This is the letter for Labocat on AO3 and before we begin, I'd just like to say thank you! Yuletide holds a dear place in my heart for introducing me to exchanges and all the joy they hold, so it means a lot to have someone sign up, especially in a fandom we share! I hope we matched on something you're excited about, because this should ideally be fun for us both! Along those lines, I do want to say that if nothing below sparks you, please feel free to use any ideas you already have! I'm really easy to please and all of these fandoms are here because I just want to see more writing in them in general, so anything at all is a gift!
In general: I meant what I said when I said I was really easy to please: I love all ratings, from general to explicit, and as long as it involves my requested characters, I love all genres and topics! It’s really hard to find something I don’t like hard stop, so please feel free to let your imagination take you where it will!
Some tropes I adore that are relevant (non-comprehensive):
- hurt/comfort and whump
- alternate PoVs of scenes
- pre-canon backstory
- curtainfic/established relationship
- casefic
- fake relationship/arranged marriage/accidentally married/accidental confessions
- found family
- enemies/rivals to lovers (also friends to lovers)
- secret relationships/friendships
- reincarnation/fated/soulbonds
- trapped somewhere together
- loyalty
- magically bonded together (either physically or telepathically)
- redemption and corruption (obv doesn't have to be in the same story, but I am good with either route!)
- road trips
- the 90s anime onsen episode
My DNWs are very few and are unlikely to come up in these canons, but just in case: pregnancy/kids, miscommunication/misunderstanding as the central source of tension, non-canonical pronouns, and suicidal thoughts/actions from characters further than canon would go.
Really Optional Details That Are Entirely Optional (okay let’s just call them kinks): If you wanted to go a M/E route, and are comfortable writing any of the following, I really enjoy size difference, blindfolds, orgasm denial, sex pollen, messy/sloppy sex, intercrual, oral, semi-public sex (like in a closet or alley), sensory deprivation, breathplay, toys (especially hidden vibes), marking/possessiveness, body worship, slow, drawn-out sex that can really tie in with the aforementioned body worship, or awkward first times. I also like a lot of things that generally have to be requested and that most people aren’t comfortable with so they are Extra Optional: dubcon, vore/gore, tentacles and xenophilia, oviposition, cum inflation, a/b/o, bloodplay, threesomes/moresomes, double penetration, and collars.
Also, past letters are more than fair game to check if you want extra information/inspiration! At this point there are a few fandoms I’ve requested multiple times but if different types of exchanges, and all those prompts are still things I would adore receiving.
Fandoms are presented in alphabetical order because I really do love all of them and any difference in length does not belie preference.
Fate Grand Order
Characters: Female Protagonist
Where to consume: The game itself is downloadable on both the Android and App Store in English now, but as the English version of the game is two years behind the Japanese, scattered translations and summaries can be found Chaldeum, Cirnopedia, and on the grand order reddit and facebook group as well.
Oh my god where do I even start. I love this fandom because it’s just so alternately off-the-wall and emotionally serious (I certainly never expected to have emotions about Hassan, okay) and the usage of events and the core stories is the perfect example of “get you a game that can do both”. The game basically doing as it likes at all times in terms of locale and occurrences plays really well with that dual nature, so I am up for everything from they get teleported to the moon to deep introspection on the nature of the Chaldea system and the servant system or being summoned into Chaldea and needing to be convinced to fight or conflicting goals for if the grail is obtained.
This year, while I would dearly love any and all servants from the tagset to be present, I would love for the protagonist to take center stage! I think the protagonist is a really interesting mortal foil in this world of divine and heroic spirits, thrust into the center of it without much preparation. I think she’s a really interesting sounding board for a lot of the issues servants might have with the system or with other servants summoned to Chaldea at the same time or having to visit places they know in situations or times that they don’t or even just dealing with the hijinks that always seem to happen in Chaldea. I think she’s also very much a possible source of unease or said hijinks. I think it would also be extremely interesting if approached from after the Demon Pillars and that fallout, since the feeling of the Master-Servant relationship takes a shift. Things in Chaldea also change, and I would love to see anything with the Chaldea crew dealing with that and how things are moving forward in the Epic of Remnant chapters.
As with before, I am good with any and all assumptions as to how many servants the protagonist, whom I am good with either being named Ritsuka or Gudako, has, whether we’re following event shenanigan logic or the more constrained main chapter logic. Along those lines, I am also good with either the Riyo characterization for hijinks or a more hardworking mindset like we see in the First Order OVA.
I also love, love, love the CEs, especially event ones or the White Days ones. Are the true AUs, or everyone just really getting into the events and new locales? Is the protag organizing this or heavily coercing servants into participating? Who did organize it?
The Penumbra Podcast
Characters: Juno Steel, Peter Nureyev
Where to consume: Anywhere you get podcasts! Episodes can be found here if you want to stream them, but otherwise for download on most podcatchers.
This whole podcast is just trope city for things I love, so it was exceedingly hard to narrow down exactly what I wanted for this, but in the end, I had to come back to what caught my eye in the first place: Juno and Nureyev and their disillusioned PI and master thief dynamic in their retrofuturistic noir setting. I love everything about the Juno Steel stories: the setting, the characters, the way Juno clearly loves Hyperion City even though it's failed him so many times. And then introduce a master thief into the dynamic, who can don and shed identities and play any sort of game with the best of them. I love the dynamic and ship of a PI and the thief they're on the trail of anyway, and this was just a perfect representation of that trope in all the ways that delight me.
I'd love to see anything filling in visits Peter might've had during Season 1, before the final events started to slot into place. Maybe he drops in to "help" out at the agency, and no one knows whether or not he's actually helping or not until the case is actually done. Or Peter drags Juno out for a night on the town. Or into a heist! Or a heist that Juno doesn't know is a heist until it's too late and they're already in someone's mansion and if he leaves, he's going to set off the alarm because Nureyev has the alarm codes and floorplans. I'm also good for some good old fashioned pining while season 2 is going on, since we know neither has forgotten the other. Really, I'd be happy with just about anything here!
This whole section is subject to change as the mid-season finale drops on October 10 (or really, October 8) and I decide just how much fix-it I need.
Shades of Magic
Characters: Kell, Holland
Where to consume: For sale on Amazon, or wherever you get books!
Even though I requested characters, I love the worldbuilding potential of this book and would be more than happy to receive something just related to it - there’s so much to be explored in both the magic and the politics the occur from both inter and intra-world dynamics! I love how each character (and each London) has been shaped by their distance from the magic center and what London they occupy and the sort of shifts we get to see when they’re faced with new elements. Each of the Londons has a different relationship with magic due to their distance from the center, but what could have happened if any of the characters were from a different London, or the Londons were in a different order radiating outward? What if Kell and Holland were Antari of other Londons? Have they ever been trapped in a different London during their early days learning their Antari powers? The Antari are a dying breed and Kell was brought quickly to the court - did the royals have people out searching for Antari to bind them to the crown even before they started dying out? Were they in the monasteries instead? Under a guise of "education"? How did the magic system evolve so differently in some of the cities other than London? From what we see in Red London and the cast’s expedition in Gathering, the Antari aren't well understood by any of the other countries, so what happened to cause a split? There's so much to explore!
I do ship Kell and Holland, so I would love anything with the two of them, especially a fix-it where they get to keep their Antari powers or continue living as the opposite sides of Antari coins in different Londons. Any sort of missing scene between them at any point during the books would be welcome, or any time they ran into each other beforehand! I love Holland teaching Kell spells he hadn't known before, and the difference in how they both interact with and treat Osaron. As much as I can get behind the “who you were in the past doesn’t matter, it’s who you are now” mentality, I am still deeply curious as to Kell’s origins and how the magic chooses an Antari and how it could parallel - even from the very beginning, be the polar opposite of - Holland’s magical growth.
I’ll also admit to being really into the bloodplay possibilities of Antari magic - the Danes drinking Holland’s blood in front of Kell was what catapulted me to Twitter to start to recruit friends to read the book. What if Kell had accepted the glass? Or if Athos hadn’t offered him anything else? What if they’d forced Holland to stay and watch while Kell drank it? Does Antari blood have a certain allure/affect on other Antari? The compulsive brand on Holland is also really alluring and I am very okay with him being coerced into doing things he normally wouldn’t do in regards to Kell.
Vatican Miracle Examiner
Characters: Any
How to Consume: Vatican Miracle Examiner is available through Amazon's Anime Strike channel, which has a free trial.
Priests, mysteries, homoeroticism, and cocaine, what more could you ask for in a series? From Roberto’s loving descriptions of Hiraga to Hiraga’s obsession with Roberto’s cooking to Laruen’s aloof-yet-obvious friendship with Hiraga to Ryota’s golden bookmarks of fate tying everything together, this series is a treasure trove in my eyes. Roberto and Hiraga are the best partners and you can take that word in any sense you want it to and it will be true - their backgrounds are so disparate but complement each other so well, and I will never be over Roberto being able to tell the age of an ink by its smell alone. Hiraga is so endlessly good at being personable and drawing people out of their shells and attracting people to him, but also seems to be completely oblivious of this fact and sees himself as the cold science person. The fact that he’s so unaware of his genius and his pull towards other people is so charming, especially towards Lauren.
I would love to see casefic, and literally any sort of casefic, be it serious or crack or crack treated seriously, which is basically what canon does, would be amazing. Does Saint Nicholas make an appearance? Is the host turning into avocado toast? What is the most off-the-wall explanation for a seemingly typical miracle you can come up with?
Character-wise, I would love to see any sort of introspection, especially in the wake of Ryota’s miracle - which, guys, you should really look into, Julia cannot be trusted, not even with his own plans - or just a quiet day around. Does Lauren check in on any other teams, or is he really only helpful to Hiraga (and Roberto by proxy) and all the other teams have written him off as only good for when they ask Hiraga to ask him? What is first on Ryota’s mind now that he’s got medicine to help and what does that “the way is opened” stuff mean anyway? I would love anything with Hiraga and Ryota getting to sit down and talk - about the miracle, about books, about nothing at all - or just getting to be a family. Roberto is also absolutely welcome in any domesticity, since we know Hiraga can't do any housekeeping himself. Or even Roberto and Ryota talking about Hiraga!
Other things include Roberto and Hiraga stumbling into a weird ritual, having to go undercover, either as a couple or as weird cultists, for once it’s not cocaine but truth serum, sex pollen, etc., the sky’s the limit! I just love how the series combines mystery and horror settings with the light of love saving the day and tag-teaming an Ace Attorney case including presenting a dead monkey to save the day. It’s a wild ride from start to finish.
